I just love this picture. It captures how Gracie feels about her little sister perfectly. I'm so thankful that they are such good friends. Gracie is SO protective of that little sister. From the moment we brought Lu home from the hospital Gracie has taken over the roll of body guard VERY seriously. The day we brought Lucie home from the hospital was Halloween. Jeff took Gracie and Isaac out trick or treating while I stayed home with Lu and my Dad was here from Boise. When Gracie got home my dad was the one holding Lucie and she started bawling. "That's our baby! He can't have her" She was so upset. She would get so stressed out if anyone else was holding Lucie.
Fast forward a year and nothing has changed. We were at Isaac's Christmas program last month and I was signing the check out sheet to take Isaac home after it got over. Grandpa F was holding Lu while I signed the paper. Gracie starts crying and freaking out. I try to calm her down and ask her what the matter is and through tears she says "he has our baby!" She was worried Grandpa was going to take her Lu home. She is such a good big sister. I never imagined she would even stop long enough to have anything to do with Lu let alone spend so much time playing with her and taking care of her.
She looks so much like Isaac did when he was a baby but she has Gracie's exact coloring and the curls have already started so we'll have two curly haired little girls. Which as their mom I was hoping for. I love the curls and I knew Lu would be jealous when they were older if she didn't have them. It will give them one less thing to fight about.
Lucie has taken the roll of baby on very well. She was my latest crawler. She doesn't sign or talk like my other two did. She's very good at calling for Isaac or Gracie and she knows thats all she has to do to get what she wants or needs. Gracie carries her everywhere so she isn't walking. She will walk along the couch and walls and the past few weeks shes started standing on her own. She took a few steps last week but that has been all we have seen of that.
She knows how much we all love her and she's quite babied. I think Jeff and I appreciate how hard it was to get her here and very realistically she is our last baby so we are trying to enjoy every last minute of it and the kids just love the spirit she brings into our home and feed off of it. Everyone gathers to where Lu is. She's our little peanut and I'm so glad she's a part of our little family.
